The B-Active Plan is the Active Transportation Plan for the Greater Birmingham region. The purpose of the plan is to establish a clear vision for building and expanding a multi-modal transportation network in Jefferson and Shelby Counties and parts of Blount and St. Clair Counties with a specific focus on creating a cohesive system of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. This website is your resource to interact with and explore the B-Active Plan. The plan was adopted by the Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization in March of 2019.
The B-Active Plan website has an interactive map contains the location of existing active transportation facilities throughout the Birmingham region that are on the ground today (May 2023), and shows them in the context of the full B-Active Plan proposed network. While approximately 378 miles of existing active transportation facilities exist, approximately 62 miles of those 378 miles are located on the B-Active Plan network.
In addition to the B-Active website, you can go to the Red Rock Trail website that also includes an interactive map of existing Red Rock Trails. To check out the Red Rock Trail interactive map go here.
